In describing a proposed new presidential debate format, here, I ignored what, alas, is perhaps the most important consideration: would it make for good television? I suspect it could. A format closer to formal debate format would involve a competition to a recognizable goal, i.e., establishing the superiority of a candidate's ideas on the issue in question, and thereby a sense of drama. However, it could well entail the candidates delving further into the details of policy, which could put many viewers to sleep.
