Several years ago, there was a tourism ad campaign with the slogan "Say yes to Michigan". Well, now John McCain has said "no" to Michigan.
In mid-September, I wrote here that McCain was showing surprising strength in that otherwise Democratic state. But the poll trend has not been favorable for him in the meantime, and his campaign has decided to stop throwing good money after bad in Michigan.
But Michigan was not among those states that my analysis earlier this week showed McCain needs for a bare majority in the electoral college. So his situation is largely unchanged: with ground to make up and the momentum seemingly against him, but still in the contest.
